Every Bulldog deserves a champion

In Kearney Elementary’s Counseling Office, we partner with students, families, and staff to nurture the social-emotional health, academic growth, and future-ready skills that let each learner thrive. Our program follows the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling framework and the national ASCA Model, delivering tiered supports that reach every child—whether they need a quick check-in, a small-group skill boost, or crisis care.

What We Do

Core Service How It Looks at Kearney Elementary
Classroom Social-Emotional Lessons Weekly 30-minute sessions in every homeroom using Second Step and Zones of Regulation to build self-awareness, empathy & conflict-resolution skills.

Small-Group Counseling 6- to 8-week cycles on topics like friendship, stress-busters, changing families, and growth mindset. Groups meet during WIN Time so kids don’t miss core instruction.

Individual Check-Ins Short-term, goal-focused sessions for students navigating worries, grief, attendance issues, or behavior hurdles.

Crisis Response & Safety Planning Immediate support and referral coordination for any student facing harm to self or others. We liaise with parents, our district mental-health team, and outside providers.

Academic & Transition Support Study-skills coaching, 5th-to-6th-grade transition events, and collaboration with teachers on tiered academic interventions.

Family & Community Outreach Parent workshops (digital citizenship, anxiety in kids), food-drive coordination, holiday giving tree, and links to local counseling, housing, and health resources.

Confidentiality & Safety

Conversations with the counselor are private unless a student shares:

  1. Intent to harm themselves or others

  2. Reports of abuse or neglect

  3. Information required by law or school policy

We always aim to involve families as partners while protecting each child’s safety and trust.
