KSD Invites Stakeholders to Express Interest in Great Schools = Great Community Committees

Kearney School District is inviting parents/guardians, staff members, students, residents, business leaders and community partners to express interest in serving on the Long-Range Facilities Planning Committee, the Portrait of a Graduate Committee or both as part of the Great Schools = Great Community initiative. Interest forms are due by the close of business on Friday, Aug. 21. Committee service is one meaningful way to be involved, and KSD will also host public engagement opportunities this fall for those who want to learn more, ask questions and provide input.

KSD Leaders Prepare for a Great School Year

Kearney School District’s leadership team gathered yesterday and today for our annual District Leadership Retreat, an important opportunity to focus, collaborate and prepare for the upcoming academic year.

The retreat brought together Dr. Miller, members of her Cabinet, our Principals, Assistant Principals, and Activities Director. Over the course of two days, the team reviewed student achievement data, aligned our work with district priorities, strengthened our professional learning community practices and continued developing plans to support rigorous learning in every classroom.

The team experienced some outstanding professional development thanks to Mark McAuliffe, president of The McAuliffe Group and a founding partner and faculty member with Maxwell Leadership. His session, “Transforming Leaders from the Inside Out,” invited our administrators to reflect on how personal growth and intentional leadership help build strong teams and create the conditions for students and staff to thrive.

The Kearney School District 2026 Back-to-School Resource Fair is less than one month away, and community volunteers can play an important role in helping local students and families start the new school year prepared and supported.

Volunteers will help create a safe and welcoming setup, sort school supplies, assemble supply bags, organize clothing and move room furniture as needed.

Six KSD Cafeterias Earn Food Safety Excellence Awards

Kearney School District is proud to celebrate six school cafeterias recognized by the Clay County Public Health Center with its 2025 Food Safety Excellence Award:
  • Dogwood Elementary
  • Hawthorne Elementary
  • Kearney Early Education Center
  • Kearney Elementary
  • Kearney Middle School
  • Southview Elementary
The award recognizes establishments that consistently follow the Clay County Food Code, demonstrate outstanding food-safety and sanitation practices, and achieve exceptional inspection results. Only 97 establishments, representing the top 12.5% of those overseen by the Health Center, received this year’s award.

Hawthorne Elementary, the Kearney Early Education Center and Kearney Middle School also earned the Health Center’s Gold Standard designation after receiving the award for at least three consecutive years.

This recognition highlights the exceptional work taking place across KSD’s food-service program. Every KSD cafeteria meets or exceeds applicable food-safety standards, and every school is supported by outstanding team members who take tremendous care in preparing and serving meals to our students. These awards are an additional distinction for schools that met the Health Center’s specific criteria during the 2025 calendar year.

We are grateful to SFE General Manager Angie Lyman and the entire Southwest Foodservice Excellence team for their professionalism, attention to detail and daily commitment to serving KSD students well. They do great work every day that helps keep our entire community healthy. Please join us in congratulating our award-winning cafeteria teams!
